About the IAYG Family Mandate
About the IAYG Family
Today at the IAYG Family
The worldwide humanitarian mandate of the IAYG family, rooted in the Charter of the IAYG Family, strengthened by related and corollary statutes, and affirmed annually by member states and stakeholders, is the basis of the IAYG system’s work as the champion of all young people and their rights, representation, and places in the societies they uphold. The Charter of the IAYG family establishes three fundamental goals: elevating the place of every child in communities and societies, advancing global opportunity, and ensuring that every child can learn, engage, participate, and lead in the world.
Every day, in every part of the world, institutions and organizations across the IAYG system deliver for young people as their champion for their rights, representation, and places in the societies they uphold. In over 170 countries, the institutions of the IAYG family lead the movement for the empowerment of young people as citizens, leaders, and partners in sustainable societies.
With twelve primary organizations, dozens of local and national affiliates, and staff on every continent, the IAYG family is a unique multilateral partnership and one of the world’s most influential humanitarian institutions focused on children and youth. As an international organization formed by member states and a multilateral institution in the public trust, the IAYG family is accountable to member and affiliate governments, institution stakeholders, and above all, to the general public and to young people, who count on the IAYG system to champion their rights, representation, and places in societies every day. Institutions and partnerships across the IAYG system, in close engagement with member states, stakeholders, partners, and the public, build and maintain an international consensus on global opportunity, representation, participatory rights, and the status of young people, while leading worldwide coalitions to champion their rights.
The stakeholders of the IAYG family, including member and affiliated states, associated civil society, and private sector partners agree that sustainable, prosperous, and peaceful societies depend on engaged, empowered, and connected young people with the capacity to lead. They recognize the inalienable role of children and youth as citizens, civic participants, and leaders in their societies, that the future of societies depend on the capacity and potential of their young people, and that empowering them is central to promoting shared prosperity, ending extreme poverty, and overcoming societal challenges to sustainable development.
The humanitarian commitments of the IAYG family are guided by the institution’s mandate, as inscribed in the Charter of the IAYG family. The Charter establishes three fundamental goals: elevating the place of every child in communities and societies, advancing global opportunity, and ensuring that every child can learn, engage, participate, and lead in the world. The powers vested in the IAYG family’s Charter and the IAYG family’s worldwide role as the champion of young people provides the framework for the expansive role of institutions, partnerships, and initiatives across the IAYG system in empowering children and youth. In addition, the IAYG family supports governments of developing countries in developing and implementing plans to empower young people, while providing platforms for countries to identify strategic priorities in the empowerment of youth and advance shared objectives.
